It seems like a plot that could only actually work out in a movie. But this scene played out in real life for attorney Howard Spiva when a man walked in during business hours, unplugged a printer and walked out.
“It wasn’t like he was out destitute or with a mask and a gun. This was a guy just walking around the building and decided he had an opportunity to pick something up and walk off with it,” Spiva said.
The theft puts many criminals to shame. The thief is either really dumb or really smart.
“Who would be stupid enough to come into a building where there are cameras? And it’s also like it’s hidden. You can see them,” Spiva said.
The man caught on camera was seen chatting with the receptionist before walking into an office and taking the heavy printer.
“The gentleman came in; said he was looking for a vending machine. He said his girlfriend was at the spa, and he was waiting for her. So since the spa was across the hallway, I didn’t think it was weird,” Cheryl Lawrence said.
The suspect left the front door and went back into the office through the back door. Spiva said they are now locking all the doors to the office. Whether the man was plain old stupid or a genius for walking out casually with a printer on his shoulders, employees are confident the man and the printer will be found.
