Honor/award: Howard Spiva was presented the John Miller Community Service Award during the Savannah Bar Association’s Law Day Awards.

For more than 12 years, his foundation “Justice for Children” has provided thousands of free bike helmets to local children, and he has sponsored a number of community events to educate parents that accidents can be prevented.

Savannah attorney Wade Herring has been awarded the Savannah Bar Association’s Robbie Robinson Award as part of the bar’s annual Law Day celebration.

Herring, a 1983 graduate of the University of Georgia law school, moved to Savannah in 1985 and joined the Hunter/Maclean law firm where he remains as a partner.

Among his community-service work is his long-standing affiliation with the Chatham-Savannah Citizen Advocacy.

In these two videos CNN's Anderson Cooper investigates stragies of the auto insurance industry to maximize profits by denying payments to injury victims.

The videos feature two cases of ladies who were involved in accidents.

One lady was offered $15,000 which was only a little over half of her medical bills.

The second lady, who was hit by an insurance company employee, was only offered $2,000 when her medical bills and lost time at work was around $15,000.

On Feb. 15, nearly 200 family members, friends and colleagues gathered in the auditorium of the State Bar to pay tribute to 10 special members of the profession. Two judges and eight attorneys were honored with the State Bar’s top honor for community and public service at the 12th annual Justice Robert Benham Awards for Community Service. They were honored because they have served a variety of organizations and causes outside their judicial duties and professional obligations.

A trio of tort lawyers looking at the issue of who would be liable for the cost of an LNG trucking accident say it’s most likely not the company that imports or trucks the liquid methane.

“The long and short of it is there’s a good chance the public will be hung with the bill,” said Clete Bergen, an attorney and president of Citizens for Clean Air and Water, which sponsored the attorneys’ public forum Tuesday evening at Candler Hospital.
